Who We Are

The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) is a non-partisan, non-profit society created in 1889 with the mission to preserve and promote the history of the Revolutionary War, provide patriotic education about the Revolution and to serve our communities philanthropically — including our veterans, educational institutions, and students.

Membership in the SAR is for any male, 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion or ethnicity, who is lineally descended “by blood” from a documented historical participant or patriotic supporter of the Revolutionary War and America’s independence. There are over 500 state and local chapters of the SAR across the country.
