Veterans Support
Don Shee is the Chairman of our Veterans Programs and he is a Member-at-Large on the Board of the Fox Valley chapter. Don is personally active in visiting vets and he coordinates the Stark Award for our chapter.
The Fox Valley chapter is proud to support our veterans. Our major activity centers on support to vets who are either home bound or in nursing homes. The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution created the Stark Award as a way of encouraging local SAR chapters to support veterans
Stark Award
The Stark Award program creates a point system to measure the total amount of participation by individual members of local SAR chapters. All chapters who accumulate 3,000 points in one year are recognized with a streamer for their chapter Flag. Don Shee, coordinator of the Stark Award, has created a one page log so that Fox Valley members can keep track of visits to vets, gifts to vets, participation in veterans activites or grave marking ceremonies of soldiers who fought in the American Revolution.

Past Veteran Activities
On July 18, 2009, Fox Valley compatriot Paul Bailey (left) and his brother and future member Dave Bailey Jr paused for a photo during the OSOT-IL sponsored Rockin’ for the Troops 2009 at Cantigny Park, where they donated 31 hours. They both do this annually. Paul is a pre-med Junior at the University of Rochester and Dave is a Senior at Naperville Central.
On June 28, 2007, Chuck Sener, Chairman of the Veterans Committee of the ILSSAR, presented a check to Hines Hospital in Chicago to be used to support our veterans. On May 9, 2006, Chuck Sener, Chairman of the Veterans Committee of the ILSSAR, presented a check to Jim Arrington, Administrator of the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle. Also participating in the presentation and visit were Ron Smith, Chairman of the Veterans Program of the Fox Valley Chapter, and Marian Bickett, Supervisor of Volunteer Services.
In January 2006, Ron Smith was photographed visiting with some the veterans living at the Devonshire nursing home in Lisle. First photo is a close-up of Ron; the second shows the whole group. Please contact Ron and visit some veterans at other nursing homes. They would really enjoy it.
