Color Guard

Jon Fixmer, the Commander of the Fox Valley Color Guard, is looking for other compatriots to get a uniform and join the Color Guard. If this might interest you, he wants to hear from you! Drop him an e-mail at jfixmer73@yahoo.com.

Individual Color Guard members have marched in parades, attended Outstanding Citizenship presentations, medal presentations at JROTC banquets, Eagle Scout Courts of Honor presentation, presentations of Law Enforcement awards, and other ceremonial events. The Color Guard raises the visibility of the SAR, and is very popular with the general public.

Past Events

The Fox Valley SAR chapter held a historical marker unveiling ceremony on July 30, 2016 for Revolutionary War patriot Abner Powers. Color Guard participants included: Jon Fixmer, Don Parrish, Chip Dawes, Mike Campagnolo and Alex Atkinson.

The Fox Valley SAR chapter joined the DAR for the 2016 Wheaton Independence Day Parade. Color Guard participants were: Alex Atkinson, Chip Dawes, Jon Fixmer, Don Parrish, and Mike Campagnolo.
Carrying the SAR banner are Dan Smith and Ted Miller.

Our Color Guard hosted a Grill n Drill June 25, 2016 in Langum park. Men enjoyed comradery, lessons on history & period arms and hot dogs on the grill. Participants were: Ray Beets, Chip Dawes, Don Parrish, Mike Campagnolo, Harry Reineke IV, Alex Atkinson & Jon Fixmer.

Our Color Guard marched in the 2016 Memorial Day Parade in Wheaton paying our respects to those who served. Participating members were: Alex Atkinson, Jon Fixmer, Chip Dawes and Mike Campagnolo. Carrying the SAR banner are Scott Sanders and Ted Miller.

Fox Valley SAR Color Guard marched in the 2016 Memorial Day Parade in Chicago and the crowd loved it. Participating members of the Fox Valley Color Guard were: Alex Atkinson, Ron Feldman, Chip Dawes & Jon Fixmer. Dan Smith and Ted Miller carried the SAR banner.

ILSSAR Color Guard marched in a parade at the state fair in Springfield in 2007 and the crowd loved it. Because of the heat, compatriots marched without their coats. Participating members of the Fox Valley Color Guard Color Guard were: Franz Herder, Joe Smith and Michael McMeins.

Ken Griswold passed away in his sleep on October 30, 2006. Ken was a strong supporter of the Color Guard and fondly referred to the uniforms as "resplendent".

Per his wife's request, the Color Guard of the Illinois Society, Sons of the American Revolution participated in Ken's thoughtful and touching commemorative service on November 3, 2006. The seven members of the ILSSAR Color Guard included all 3 members from Fox Valley: Franz Herder, Joe Smith and Don Parrish.

This photo was taken at the grave marking ceremony of Revolutionary War soldier Daniel Burroughs on the 250th anniversary of his birth on May 28, 2005. He fought in the battle of Saratoga, the turning point of the Revolution. On the far right is Joseph Smith. On the far left are two other members of the Fox Valley Color Guard, Francis Herder & Don Parrish.

Also in the photo are the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dennis Hastert. He is flanked by the ILSSAR Color Guard Commander John Dyrud and the ILSSAR President Dr. Kenneth Griswold.
